The Cowra Festival of International Understanding showcased a vibrant celebration of Indian culture, with Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay recently attending the opening night as India took center stage as this year’s theme. The festival captivated audiences with mesmerizing performances by Karisha and the Funkaars, Swastik Institute of Dance, and a soulful sitar recital by Ravi. Schoolchildren from the Cowra Council beautifully presented the Indian national anthem, adding to the spirit of cultural exchange. In a special sporting event, the Indian High Commission, in collaboration with Kho Kho Australia, organized an exhibition match, introducing the traditional Indian sport of Kho Kho to a wider Australian audience. As a lasting symbol of friendship between India and Australia, High Commissioner Baglay and Cowra Mayor Paul Smith planted a Himalayan Birch tree, standing next to a similar planting by an Indian High Commissioner in 1967. The gesture underscored the enduring ties between the two nations, marking another milestone in their growing relationship.
