Brisbane, April 27 (Australia India News Newsdesk)
The Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland (FICQ), under the leadership of president Dr Preethi Suraj, recently co-hosted a special ANZAC Day Commemoration Dinner in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, Brisbane, with support from the Indian Soldier War Memorial Organisation.
For over 27 years, FICQ has been a driving force in uniting the Indian diaspora in Queensland. This dinner marked a historic moment, being the first time an event of its kind was hosted by the Indian community in Queensland. It served not only to commemorate ANZAC Day but also to highlight the significant contributions of Indian soldiers during World Wars I and II, especially their role at Gallipoli and their connection to the ANZAC legacy.
Consul General Neetu Bogatiya and other distinguished speakers paid tribute to the bravery, sacrifice, and brotherhood displayed by Indian soldiers, sharing powerful stories that deserve greater recognition within Australian history.
FICQ reaffirmed its commitment to continuing partnerships with community organisations and veterans’ groups to ensure that the contributions of Indian soldiers are acknowledged, preserved, and taught to future generations. The spirit of ANZAC, they emphasized, lives on not just in ceremonies but through shared remembrance and ongoing dialogue.
