Infectious bacteria and viruses are a tremendous threat to public health, the global economy, and societal well-being. This notion is more apparent than ever as COVID-19 continues to inflict widespread human suffering in the form of illness and morbidity, job loss and poverty, as well as anxiety and depression.
Fortunately, world-leading researchers at QUT are spearheading innovative technologies to fight pathogens through nanostructured surfaces. Surface modification, inspired by nature, physically prevents the settlement and survival of bacteria and viruses (including COVID-19) on surfaces.
Through rapid upscaling and development, we can implement these surfaces in hospitals, public transport, and other high-traffic public areas to prevent the spread of current and future pathogens in our communities.
