Leading Australian Indian Diaspora organisations to commemorate Gandhi’s Birth Anniversary on 2nd October, as India celebrates its 75 years of Independence – the freedom movement led by Gandhi. Following the recent aftermath of COVID 19 second wave in India, the sadness of losing family & friends, with many waiting to perform last rites, has been devastating.
The diaspora organisations to revive the art of communal harmony by sharing the bread, and hybrid Q&A: Democracy in changing time & crisis; connecting thousands within Australia in lockdown also.
Commemoration to occur at USQ Auditorium, Springfield Lakes. Maha Sinnathamby AM Chairman Springfield City Group and High Commissioner of India in Canberra – HE Manpreet Vohra, to be the guests of honor. Australian violinist Constantine & his brother, the young sporting talents, both Queenslanders also, to play Gandhian hymns, thru’ their violin, healing the diaspora that have been through strain recently.
An invigorating chinwag with the communities, on Gandhian light tales, followed by hybrid Q&A: Democracy in crisis & changing times to be moderated by Jim Varghese AM – National Chair Australia India Business Council, Gandhi Salt March Limited.
GSML Chairman, Jim Varghese AM said: “Mahatma Gandhi preached the messages of unity, non- violence and tolerance in a dark era of the British Empire. He is remembered for his non-violent protests against the British colonial rulers and his criticism of the further division by caste system. The recent harrowing brawl in our community, needs the pages to be turned on the partisan communities. Our goal is one unified community; for the betterment of the next generation and generations to come.”
Springfield City Group Chairman Maha Sinnathamby AM said “Today I stand proud of all the people of Indian heritage, a thriving multicultural diaspora, contributing to our Australia. So many have made significant contributions during the pandemic, all over Australia & the world. Our Springfield City community is also growing and this year, Dr Amrita & Sudip Dhital opened the Health City, committed to deliver comprehensive health services to our residents.”
“We want to continue the tradition of Gandhi Jayanti and remain the force in action for the Gandhian values of inclusion, non-violence – for stronger eco-system building – it is the need of the hour”, he continued.
Embrace an evening on love-based tolerance, 2020 Gandhi Jayanti amid COVID 19, 20000 people from different parts of the world and communities joined to us to celebrate the spirit of joy and togetherness. People around the world living in isolation and in limited communities and their own compounds, it is necessary for people to connect with each other.
In 2019 Gandhi Salt March Limited hosted the historic 390 Kms Bapu Peace Drive led between 2 states, Orange & White Peace Day in memory of Christchurch and Sri Lanka, open to all beliefs, people, and planet, as a peace initiative.
Confirmed representation from Australia Federal Parliament, Queensland Parliament, notable representatives from international interests, indigenous Australians, business leaders, academics, NGO, religious and spiritual leaders; migrants from refugee backgrounds and children of local institutions to join with one message of peace, harmony and inclusion.
