Perth, April 29 (Australia India News Newsdesk)
In a historic moment of remembrance, Indian soldiers who fought in Gallipoli during the First World War were officially honoured for the first time at ANZAC Day ceremonies in Western Australia.
The Acting Consul General of India paid tribute at the dawn service held at Kings Park, Perth, and later at the Commemorative Service in Mandurah, marking a significant step in acknowledging the contributions of Indian troops in the ANZAC legacy.
Adding to the solemnity of the occasion, the Indian Veterans Contingent and the Sikh Ex-Servicemen Contingent proudly participated in the ANZAC Day Parade in Perth. Their presence paid homage to the Indian soldiers who served bravely alongside Australian and New Zealand forces during the Gallipoli campaign of 1915.
The WA Sikh Band also took part in the parade, lending a musical tribute that resonated with the spirit of unity, sacrifice, and shared history.
The recognition of Indian soldiers at ANZAC Day has been widely welcomed by the Indian diaspora and veterans’ communities, with many hoping this becomes a regular feature in future commemorations.
