In a major show of support for Queensland’s Indian community, the Australian Labor Party has committed $5.5 million towards the creation of the House of India, a cultural centre and shared community space in Greater Springfield.
The announcement was made as part of Labor’s federal election commitments, with Shayne Neumann MP leading the pledge. The proposed centre aims to serve as a vibrant multicultural hub where Indian heritage, community unity, and cultural celebration will thrive for generations.
Described as a historic moment for the Indian-Australian community, the House of India is envisioned as a landmark space that reflects the growing contributions and presence of Indians in Queensland.
Key political and community leaders, including Milton Dick MP, Charis Mullen MP, Nicole Jonic from Ipswich City Council, and Councillor Paul Tully, have all played significant roles in advocating for this initiative and recognising the value of the Indian diaspora in Australia’s multicultural fabric.
