New Delhi: Popular Bhajan singer Narendra Chanchal passed away on Friday, i.e. 22nd January 2021. He was 80.
The bhajan veteran breathed his last this morning at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi, where he was admitted a few days back.
Tributes started pouring in on Twitter soon after with cricketer Harbhajan Singh tweeting that he was “deeply saddened to learn that iconic and most loved #NarendraChanchal ji has left us for the heavenly abode. In prayers for his soul to rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to his family”.
Popular singer Daler Mehndi too paid “heartfelt condolences” to Chanchal’s “family and legions of fans”.
Born in Amritsar in 1940, Narendra Chanchal is surely the first name that comes to mind when one thinks of Mata ka Jagran. His distinct voice had earned him great fame.
Not just in religious music, Chanchal had also won accolades in Bollywood. He had won the Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer Award for a Bollywood song ‘Beshak Mandir Masjid’ of the 1973 movie ‘Bobby’.
As soon as the news surfaced, social media users started paying tribute to him.
