Two homes have lost their roofs and at least 16,000 homes are without power as a severe thunderstorm tears across south-east Queensland.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for “very dangerous thunderstorms” this morning, initially affecting the Somerset region and later Brisbane and Moreton Bay.
The BoM has warned of “damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones”.

Properties near Esk have received about 30mm of rain in less than 10 minutes, and more than 600 people in the Somerset and Scenic Rim region lost power.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Brett Harrison said the powerful storm cell was “still packing a punch” as it moved east.
More than 16,000 homes in the greater Brisbane area are without power as a result, with Energex reporting that at least 15,614 customers in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area have been affected by emergency outages.
Another 402 homes in the Logan City area are without power, as are 521 properties in Somerset, northwest of Brisbane.
