The Australia India Institute hosted a special lecture by Ven. Geshe Lhakdor, Director of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamshala, as part of his Australian tour.
In his address titled “Wisdom and Compassion in a Changing World: Australia, India and Tibet,” Geshe Lhakdor spoke about Tibetan knowledge traditions, the importance of preserving cultural heritage, and the enduring relevance of compassion in contemporary society.
The event was organised in partnership with the Tibetan Library Project (ALTWA) and brought together scholars, community members and those interested in cross-cultural dialogue.
Speakers highlighted the significance of institutions dedicated to safeguarding Tibetan language, manuscripts and intellectual traditions, noting their role in maintaining cultural continuity.
The session concluded with remarks from the Institute’s founding Director and CEO, who reflected on the importance of such exchanges in fostering deeper understanding between cultures.
Organisers said the lecture provided valuable insights into Tibetan philosophy while strengthening academic and cultural connections between Australia, India and Tibet.
