New Delhi, April 1 (IANS) In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Delhi Police arrested a 19-year-old youth carrying 3.423 kilograms of ganja, officials said on Wednesday.

The arrest took place near Bharthal Village Road, as part of a proactive patrolling and intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing drug supply in the local areas of Dwarka.

According to a press release issued by the police, the operation was conducted by a dedicated team from the police station in Sector-23, Dwarka, under the supervision of ACP Dwarka, Kishor Kumar Rewala. The team included Head Constable Rajesh, Ct. Ram Kishan, HC Sher Singh, HC Vicky, and IO/SI Satpal Dagar.

Officials stated that the patrol’s vigilance “bore results” when the officers noticed a suspicious individual carrying a black backpack, moving from Bharthal Village towards Dwarka Expressway. The person, later identified as Vipin Kumar, attempted to evade the police, prompting a short chase that led to his apprehension.

On searching the backpack, police recovered a black polythene bag containing a tobacco-colored substance emitting a strong odour of ganja. The substance was immediately tested using a field testing kit and confirmed as ganja, weighing 3 kilograms and 423 grams. The press release noted that “all legal formalities under the NDPS Act were duly complied with,” and the recovered drug was sealed with the official police seal for further legal processes.

During interrogation, Vipin Kumar, a resident of Madhubani, Bihar, disclosed that he was currently residing in Kapashera, Delhi, with a relative. He revealed that he had procured the ganja from a person named Priyam, a resident of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, at a rate of approximately Rs 8,000 per kilogram, with the intention of selling it in Delhi at a higher price to local contacts.

The case has been registered under FIR No. 84/2026, U/s 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act at PS Sector-23, Dwarka, and further investigation is underway. Police officials emphasised that the timely intervention prevented a significant drug supply from reaching local neighbourhoods, underscoring the importance of continuous surveillance and proactive policing.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka District, Kushal Pal Singh, who issued the press release, commended the officers for their alertness and swift action, stating that such intelligence-driven operations are vital to ensuring public safety and dismantling drug supply networks.

This operation reflects the Dwarka Police’s commitment to curbing illegal narcotics trafficking and maintaining law and order in the district.
