Trinamool writes to Calcutta HC Chief Justice requesting mention of ‘ground of rejection’ in judicial adjudication

Kolkata, April 1 (IANS) The Trinamool Congress, on Wednesday, wrote a letter to the Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, requesting the latter to ensure that in case of “logical discrepancy” cases in West Bengal that will be rejected in course of the ongoing judicial adjudication process, the “grounds of rejections” should be mentioned by the judicial officers involved in the process.

In an email communique sent to Justice Paul, Trinamool Congress had said that the “ground of rejection”, if any, given by the judicial officers should be available in the supplementary list for the rejected candidates, so that the appellants know the “grounds of rejection”.

According to Trinamool Congress, the rejected persons should have a clear idea of the grounds of their rejection, which they will have to satisfy while they approach the Appellate Tribunals challenging that rejection.

In the email communique, Trinamool Congress had also requested Justice Paul to initiate the publication of the notification for the commencement of offline appeals at the earliest.

Another request from the state’s ruling party is that apart from the offices of the district magistrates and sub-divisional officers, appeals might also be received at the office of the block development officers.

“Hence, the Chief Justice may be pleased to consider that appeals filed physically might be received at the offices of the District Magistrate/Sub Divisional Officer/Block Development Officer. This will enable decentralised filing of appeals and ensure the benefit of the large number of voters for whom it will be convenient to deposit the appeals at the block level,” the email communique said.

At the same time, Trinamool Congress had also requested Justice Paul to consider that the voters filing appeals may be allowed to be represented either on their own or through their authorised representatives and be given an opportunity of hearing before the Tribunal either physically or by virtual mode, and to make provision for communicating the date of hearing to the appellants.
