Kolkata, April 7 (IANS) The Election Commission has taken several steps to ensure free and peaceful Assembly elections in West Bengal, and amid these, Kolkata Police are preparing a list of the most notorious criminals.

It was learnt on Tuesday that each police station has been instructed to identify the most notorious criminals who can cause unrest during the election.

Before elections, the police prepare a list of ‘trouble mongers’, with each police station sending it to the city police headquarters. The list also reaches the Election Commission, and based on it, surveillance is carried out in each area. At the same time, preventive arrests are also carried out.

The police have already prepared a list of ‘trouble mongers’ on behalf of the police stations and the intelligence department. But this time, Kolkata Police have been instructed to choose the names of the ‘most notorious’ from that list.

Police headquarters have instructed every police station in the city to select ten names of ‘trouble mongers’ or notorious offenders from the list of all criminals in each police station area. The names of those ten people will be sent to Lalbazar (city police headquarters) through the Deputy Commissioner of the division concerned, and it will, in its turn, send that list to the Election Commission.

Officials in Lalbazar said that the Election Commission has recently suspended the Officer-in-Charge of Kasba police station for not adding the name of south Kolkata’s notorious criminal, Sona Pappu, to the list of ‘trouble mongers’.

After this, the police are being instructed to keep a close eye on those who can cause a lot of trouble during or before the voting in each area.

That is why this time, Lalbazar has ordered to prepare a list of not only ‘trouble mongers’ but also ‘most notorious criminals. At the same time, Lalbazar has also issued instructions to keep a special eye on the activities of those ten criminals in their area. The police have said that they will keep a special eye on them so that they cannot cause any trouble during the voting.
