Bagdogra, April 14 (IANS) As the highly-anticipated West Bengal elections draw near, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Tuesday expressed confidence that the Trinamool Congress will be wiped out in the state this time.

Speaking to reporters, Tejasvi Surya said, “Today, I have come here to Siliguri and spoken to the workers of the BJP Yuva Morcha. The kind of environment prevailing in West Bengal this time gives me confidence to say that the Trinamool Congress will be wiped out, especially in North Bengal, where you will see a strong BJP wave. The youth wants change.”

He further said that the Women’s Reservation Bill will be one of the most important legislative reforms of the 21st century.

“The Women’s Reservation Bill will be one of the most significant legislative reforms of the 21st century. It will give voice to the aspirations of crores of Indian women — daughters of India — who are already excelling in various fields of national endeavour, by providing them greater representation and meaningful participation in lawmaking and policymaking,” he said.

Tejasvi Surya added that the Bill will further strengthen the democratic spirit of India.

“It will strengthen the democratic spirit of India, improve the quality of our debates, and give a new boost to the dreams of a ‘Viksit Bharat’,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a letter to India’s Nari Shakti, highlighting the growing support for women’s reservation in legislative bodies and reaffirming the government’s commitment to implementing the long-pending reform.

Taking to the social media platform X, PM Modi said, “Women across India are appreciating the initiative to ensure reservation for women in legislative bodies. Here is my letter to India’s Nari Shakti, reiterating our commitment to implement what has been pending for decades.”

The Prime Minister began his letter with a traditional greeting, ‘Namaskar,’ and noted the historical importance of April 14, which marks the birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar. Paying tribute to Dr Ambedkar, PM Modi highlighted his contribution to nation-building and his commitment to constitutional values that continue to guide India’s democratic journey.

The Prime Minister further pointed out that Parliament is scheduled to reconvene on April 16 to deliberate on a crucial constitutional amendment related to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.

“In the next two days, on the 16th, Parliament will reconvene to discuss and hopefully pass an important constitutional amendment relating to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. I am seeing that there is immense enthusiasm towards this. Women from all over the nation are expressing their joy at getting a stronger opportunity to contribute towards building a Viksit Bharat,” PM Modi said.
