BJP will end practices of ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘multiple marriages’ in Bengal: HM Amit Shah

Kolkata, April 14 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in West Bengal after the two-phased Assembly polls scheduled later this month, it will bring an end to the practices of rampant ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘multiple marriages’ in the state by enforcing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

“Some people have the liberty to maintain four marriages simultaneously, while others have to maintain one marriage at a time. Is this fair? But do not worry. After forming the government next month in Bengal, the UCC will be enforced. The practice of maintaining four marriages at a time will end. There will be no ‘Love Jihad’ or ‘Land Jihad’ in the state anymore,” he said while addressing a campaign rally at Manikchak in Malda district.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Shah also issued a strong note of caution to those involved in the various cases of corruption in the state during the last 15 years of the Trinamool Congress government.

“If they think that they will be getting away, they are mistaken. Let the results be declared, and the new government be formed. Every person involved in corrupt practices will be behind bars,” the Union Home Minister said.

He also added that if the anti-social elements of Trinamool Congress try to disrupt the polling processes on April 23 and April 29, they will be dealt with severely.

“So I am warning them that they should be at their homes on the polling days. Otherwise, they will be facing the circumstances,” Union Minister Shah said.

At the same time, the Union Home Minister also said the dream of the former Trinamool Congress legislator Humayun Kabir to build a Babri mosque in West Bengal will never be fulfilled.

“Babar destroyed the Ram Temple. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi re-constructed the Ram Temple. So Humayun Kabir should listen carefully that no one will be able to construct the Babri Mosque anywhere in India. The dream to construct the Babri Mosque will never be fulfilled,” he added.

He also said that just as the BJP had eradicated terrorism and Left-wing extremism in West Bengal, it will halt illegal infiltration in the country, including West Bengal.
