Chennai, April 16 (IANS) The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has forecast a gradual rise in temperatures across Tamil Nadu over the coming days, with light rainfall expected in isolated pockets, particularly along the Western Ghats and select coastal districts.

According to an official statement issued by the Chennai Meteorological Department, an atmospheric trough currently extends from southeast Madhya Pradesh to the Gulf of Mannar, passing through Vidarbha, Marathwada, north interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Under its influence, light rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Western Ghats districts, the delta region coastal areas, Ramanathapuram district, and Karaikal region between April 16 and April 21.

However, most other parts of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry are expected to experience predominantly dry weather during this period.

The department also indicated a steady increase in maximum temperatures across interior Tamil Nadu.

Between April 16 and April 19, maximum temperatures in interior districts are likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in some locations over the next 24 hours. In contrast, coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are not expected to witness any significant change in temperature.

When compared to normal levels, maximum temperatures in interior Tamil Nadu are likely to remain 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above average during this period. Coastal regions, however, are expected to record temperatures close to normal.

In addition to rising temperatures, high humidity levels are also likely to prevail between April 16 and April 19, particularly in coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. This combination of heat and humidity may lead to discomfort among residents in these regions.

For Chennai and its suburbs, the weather department has forecast partly cloudy skies for Thursday and Friday.

While no significant rainfall has been predicted for the city, humidity levels are expected to remain relatively high, contributing to warm and sticky conditions.

Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions to cope with the rising heat, especially during peak daytime hours, and to stay hydrated as temperatures continue to climb across the state.
