New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) In an initiative towards building a clean, green and pollution-free Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday flagged off 200 new electric buses from the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) depot at East Vinod Nagar.

With the addition of 200 new buses, the total bus fleet in the capital has exceeded 6,300, including 4,500-plus electric buses, making Delhi the city with the largest electric bus fleet in the country, said an official statement.

She said the government aims to increase this number to approximately 14,000 buses by the year 2028-29. These buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons, real-time tracking, and features friendly to persons with disabilities.

On this occasion, the Delhi-Rohtak interstate e-bus service was also launched, the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal was dedicated to the public and the newly constructed administrative building of the depot was also inaugurated, said the statement.

The Chief Minister stated that electric mobility is being rapidly promoted by our government to make the capital pollution-free.

She remarked that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country and Delhi are continuously moving towards new heights of development.

The event was attended by Delhi government’s Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, senior officials of the concerned department, and other dignitaries.

The Chief Minister said that the objective of every initiative of the Delhi Government is to provide better connectivity, a clean environment, and modern transport facilities to the citizens.

She noted that Friday is a special day as four major projects were inaugurated simultaneously.

She informed that a large number of the new buses are ‘Devi’ buses, which will provide better transport facilities to common citizens by reaching remote and narrow lanes.

Additionally, the launch of the Delhi-Rohtak interstate bus service will strengthen regional connectivity. The Chief Minister termed the inauguration of the Madanpur Khadar bus terminal as a crucial facility for passengers, making transport services more organised.

She also mentioned the inauguration of the newly constructed administrative building at the East Vinod Nagar depot, stating that better facilities enhance the efficiency of employees.

This building is equipped with a biometric system and health check-up facilities to ensure that drivers operate buses in a safe and healthy condition, thereby reducing the possibility of accidents.
