Bhopal, April 21 (IANS) Bhopal is set to witness a day-long special session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly on April 27, following an official notification issued by the State Governor, Mangubhai Patel, on April 21.

The Governor’s order, invoking Clause (1) of Article 174 of the Constitution, has summoned the Assembly to convene at 11:00 a.m. in the state capital.

While addressing a protest march and a press conference, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the government would soon convene an Assembly session on the Women’s Reservation Bill.

The session will focus on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and related issues, a matter that has stirred intense political debate across the country.

The Women’s Reservation Bill, which sought to ensure greater representation of women in legislatures, recently failed to pass in the Lok Sabha.

This setback has triggered sharp reactions, with the Bharatiya Janata Party staging protests against the Congress and its allied parties, accusing them of obstructing the aspirations of women.

The upcoming Assembly session is expected to provide a platform for legislators to deliberate on the implications of the Bill’s defeat and to reaffirm the state’s stance on women’s empowerment.

The session is likely to be marked by heated exchanges, as the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to highlight its commitment to women’s rights while criticising the opposition for blocking the measure.

The Congress, on the other hand, is expected to defend its position, arguing that the Bill’s provisions were linked to delimitation and could have broader political consequences.

The special session is being seen as more than a procedural exercise; it is a symbolic move to keep the issue of women’s reservation alive in public discourse.

With women’s rights and representation becoming a central theme in national politics, Madhya Pradesh’s Assembly.

While the Assembly cannot alter the fate of the Bill passed at the national level, its deliberations will carry weight in shaping public opinion and reinforcing the demand for women’s rightful place in governance.

The April 27 session is expected to be a defining moment in the state’s political calendar, reflecting both the urgency and sensitivity surrounding the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.
