New Delhi, April 26 (IANS) Highlighting India’s burgeoning leadership in the global renewable energy landscape, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently lauded the nation’s extraordinary progress in wind power during his latest ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on Sunday.

The Prime Minister revealed that India has achieved a significant milestone by adding approximately 6 GW of new wind energy capacity within a single year, a feat that has captured the attention of the international community.

PM Modi noted that India now ranks fourth globally in terms of total wind energy capacity. He described this achievement not merely as a technical success, but as a powerful symbol of the nation’s collective willpower and commitment to a sustainable future.

According to the Prime Minister, the rapid advancement in this sector is a testament to the focused efforts of both the government and the citizens in transitioning towards a greener economy. Key states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan are leading this energy revolution.

The Prime Minister specifically highlighted the transformation of Gujarat’s desert regions, including Kutch, Patan, and Banaskantha. These areas, once characterised solely by their vast and barren landscapes, have been repurposed into hubs for large-scale renewable energy projects. This shift has turned geographical challenges into economic assets, providing a blueprint for sustainable development across the country.

Beyond environmental benefits, the Prime Minister emphasised the socio-economic impact of these projects. The rise of wind energy is creating a wealth of new opportunities for India’s youth.

As the sector expands, new skill sets are being developed, and diverse avenues for employment are opening up in rural and semi-urban areas. This growth ensures that the transition to clean energy also serves as a catalyst for professional development and economic empowerment.

Closing his remarks on the topic, the Prime Minister framed the adoption of clean energy as a vital responsibility for every citizen. He asserted that securing the nation’s future requires a dual approach — conservation of electricity and the widespread embrace of renewable sources.

PM Modi stressed that significant national change is the result of initiatives taken at every level of society. By prioritising clean energy today, India is not only addressing global environmental concerns but also building a resilient and self-reliant energy infrastructure for generations to come, he said.
