Gujarat local poll results: Dy CM hails BJP win, claims ‘outside funding influence’ during campaign

Ahmedabad, April 28 (IANS) Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Tuesday claimed that funds were brought from outside the state to mislead farmers during the local self-government elections, while addressing a ‘Vijay Utsav’ programme organised by the BJP to mark its electoral performance across the state.

The event was held after the declaration of results, during which the BJP secured a strong position across multiple municipal corporations, municipalities, and local bodies in different regions of the state.

Party leaders and workers gathered at the celebration programme as part of post-election victory events held in various districts.

Addressing party workers, Sanghavi said the elections reflected widespread support for the BJP across Gujarat.

“Today, the BJP has secured victory in every corner of Gujarat. Victories have been achieved from different wards,” he said, adding that party workers had played a decisive role in the outcome.

He said the party’s presence had strengthened across all regions of the state, including North Gujarat, South Gujarat, Central Gujarat and Saurashtra.

“Saffron has been waved in every corner of Gujarat,” he said.

Sanghavi described the BJP’s relationship with the electorate as a broad-based social bond. “The BJP and the citizens together form the world’s largest family,” he said, adding that the victory reflected collective effort rather than individual achievement.

“Today’s victory is not just the victory of BJP workers, it is the victory of all the citizens of Gujarat,” he said.

Referring to the campaign and candidate selection process, he said the party had fielded individuals from diverse backgrounds across constituencies.

He cited the inclusion of professionals and community representatives, stating that candidates included doctors, engineers and social leaders, alongside individuals from various occupations.

“Even a bangle seller and a rickshaw driver were given tickets,” he said.

Sanghavi also commended party workers for their sustained organisational efforts during the campaign period.

“No matter how severe the heat or any situation, the workers remain firmly on the ground. You all have worked day and night to achieve this victory,” he said.

He further reiterated his allegation regarding external influence during the electoral period, claiming that attempts were made to disturb rural sentiment.

“On one side, farmers of my state were facing difficulties, and funds were brought from outside the state to mislead the farmers of my state,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the results demonstrated continued public support for the party’s organisational structure and grassroots governance approach.

He also urged party workers to maintain close engagement with citizens and continue addressing local concerns.

The Vijay Utsav programme was organised after the conclusion of counting in Gujarat’s local self-government elections, during which the BJP recorded a strong showing across several regions.
