Guwahati, May 5 (IANS) Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal welcomed the spectacular performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Assam Assembly elections and described the historic mandate as a strong “endorsement of development-driven governance and people-centric leadership”.

The MP from Assam’s Dibrugarh also congratulated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for leading the alliance to a landslide victory and thanked the people of Assam for giving a historic mandate to the BJP.

“Assam has spoken! I extend my heartiest congratulations to Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma. Your tireless energy and hard work have played a vital role in ensuring that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of development reaches every corner of the state. Our collective resolve for a safe, secure, and self-reliant Assam will only grow stronger in the days ahead,” Sonowal said.

He further said that the scale of victory reflects the deep trust reposed by the people in the double-engine government and its consistent focus on inclusive growth, infrastructure development and welfare delivery, and the mandate will further accelerate the state’s development.

“The people of Assam have once again chosen stability, progress and decisive governance. This mandate is not just a victory — it is a responsibility to serve with greater commitment and dedication,” Sonowal remarked.

Highlighting the importance of collective effort, Sonowal emphasised that the NDA government will continue to work towards strengthening peace, prosperity and opportunity across the state, with a continued focus on economic growth, youth empowerment, infrastructure expansion and social harmony.

The senior BJP leader also acknowledged the contribution of party workers, whose grassroots engagement helped translate governance outcomes into a strong electoral mandate.

The former Assam CM also pledged to work tirelessly to realise the vision of a developed Assam and contribute to building a stronger, self-reliant India, backed by the blessings of the people.

In a press statement, he also expressed gratitude to the BJP’s central leadership and credited PM Modi’s visionary leadership, Home Minister Amit Shah’s untiring efforts in strengthening governance and also BJP President Nitin Nabin for the party’s emphatic show in Assam, Bengal and Puducherry.
