Srinagar, May 5 (IANS) Police in J&K’s Srinagar district said on Tuesday that they have attached property worth Rs 1.20 crore of a notorious drug peddler during the 100-day-long ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan’.

A police statement said that while continuing the relentless drive against drug trafficking under the ongoing 100 Days Campaign of Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Srinagar Police have attached immovable property worth belonging to a notorious drug peddler.

Police Station Nowhatta, acting under the provisions of Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, attached the immovable property of an accused involved in FIR No. 61/2019 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.

The attached property includes: a fully renovated three-storey residential house, a separate single-storey concrete kitchen block with three washrooms, and land measuring nine marlas.

The property belongs to Nisar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Habibullah Sheikh, a resident of Kani Dewar, Sheikh Mohallah, Hawal Srinagar.

Investigation has revealed that the said property was acquired through proceeds of illicit drug trafficking.

Accordingly, the property has been identified and attached as illegally acquired assets under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.

This action reflects the firm commitment of Srinagar Police to dismantle the financial networks of drug traffickers and to curb the menace of narcotics in society.

The police reiterated their resolve to continue strict action against individuals involved in drug peddling and appealed to the general public to support the ongoing campaign by sharing any information related to drug abuse and trafficking.

J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha launched the 100-day-long Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan last month. He said more stringent punitive actions against drug smugglers will include cancellation of Aadhaar card, driving licence, passport and attachment of property created by funds generated through drug smuggling, drug peddling and trade in drugs.

On Tuesday, he participated in a padayatra in Budgam, Kashmir. “I appealed to every family, social organization, spiritual & political leaders in Budgam to intensify this campaign across the district & assured them that every arm of administration & its full strength is committed to eradicating drugs,” L-G Singa posted on X.
