As MP govt marks 2.5 years, CM pushes for statewide review of development works

Bhopal, May 5 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday announced a two-pronged push for administrative accountability, ordering intensive departmental reviews from May 8–10 and making District Development Committee meetings compulsory in all districts before May 12.

At the core department-wise reviews, the Ministers and senior officials will present detailed reports on achievements, policy innovations, challenges, and future plans.

“Our priority is to ensure that the benefits of governance reach every citizen effectively. These reviews will help us evaluate progress at every level and strengthen implementation where needed,” Chief Minister Yadav said while chairing a meeting on Tuesday.

In a parallel move toward decentralised governance, the Chief Minister directed that Ministers in-charge lead district-level meetings before May 12 to assess development works, resolve local issues, and improve coordination between departments and district administrations.

District Collectors have been told to prepare scheme-wise status notes with a focus on health, education, rural roads, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, according to a statement from Chief Minister’s office.

Chief Minister Yadav also flagged capacity-building for newly appointed members of state corporations and boards.

He instructed Ministers to provide clear guidance and hold a one-day state-level orientation programme.

“It is important that all appointees are fully aware of their roles. A structured orientation will help bring uniformity and efficiency in their functioning,” he said in a statement.

The initiative comes as the Mohan Yadav-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is completing two-and-a-half years in office and looks to reinforce its governance framework after a decisive mandate.

The BJP, which has been in power in Madhya Pradesh since 2003 (except for 18 months), had won 163 seats in the 230-member Assembly in the 2023 state elections, while the Congress was reduced to 66 seats.

Mohan Yadav, who succeeded Shivraj Singh Chouhan as the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, is focusing on tightening administrative mechanisms and improving coordination across levels of governance.

Officials said the May 8–10 reviews will track outcomes, not just expenditures, with an emphasis on closing last-mile gaps.

Departments have been asked to bring beneficiary data, asset-creation details, and service-delivery timelines rather than only financial utilisation figures.

The Chief Minister’s Office added that follow-up reviews will be held quarterly to ensure decisions taken in the May meetings are implemented on the ground.
