Pune, May 7 (IANS) A shocking incident has come to light from Pune’s Chandannagar area, where a young man allegedly attempted to murder his girlfriend by slitting her throat with a sharp-edged weapon following a dispute over their relationship. The critically injured woman has been battling for her life in the ICU for the past nine days. The police have arrested the accused in connection with the case.

The incident took place in the Patharewasti locality, which falls under the jurisdiction of Chandannagar Police Station in Pune city. The injured woman has been identified as 22-year-old Ujaladevi Jaswantsingh Dohre. Originally from Uttar Pradesh, she had been residing in Chandannagar along with her brother.

After the murderous attempt on the victim, her brother Bhagatsingh Jaswantsingh Dohre lodged a complaint at Chandannagar Police Station. The police registered a case against the accused, Dilip Rathod, under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and subsequently arrested him.

According to police, the accused and the victim previously worked together at the same mall, where they first met and eventually developed a romantic relationship. However, disputes arose between the two over past few days, leading to constant quarrels and altercation.

On the day of the incident, the woman was alone at home as her brother and sister-in-law had gone to work. During this period, the accused allegedly arrived at the house. Following an argument, he attacked the woman with a sharp-edged weapon and slit her throat.

After carrying out the attack, the accused fled from the scene. Despite being critically injured, the woman managed to send a text message to her brother, saying, “He has killed me… come home quickly…” She then made a video call to him. Seeing his sister covered in blood during the call, the brother was left shocked and immediately rushed home from work. He was employed as a delivery personnel and managed to reach the house within 10 to 12 minutes.

With the help of relatives and local residents, the victim was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Kharadi, where she has been undergoing treatment in the ICU for the last nine days. Doctors have stated that her condition remains extremely critical.

Following the incident, police officials reached the hospital to record her statement. However, due to the severe throat injury, the victim was unable to speak. She then requested a pen and paper and identified the accused by writing the name “Dilip Rathod.”

Speaking to IANS, the victim’s brother said that her marriage had already been fixed elsewhere. He alleged that the accused wanted to marry her. He added that he was unaware of the relationship and came to know about it only after the incident.

Considering the seriousness of the case, senior Pune Police officials visited the spot and launched an investigation. The accused is currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway.
