Meerut, May 7 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested a Superintendent, CGST Meerut, U.P. and a Computer Operator working in the office of the Superintendent, in a Rs 6,000 bribery case, an official said.

Sanjay Meena, Superintendent, CGST Office, Range-I, Meerut (UP), and Yash Sharma, Computer Operator, CGST Office, after verifying a complaint received against them, an official said.

The CBI registered the instant case on Wednesday against the accused Computer Operator working in the office of the accused Superintendent, CGST Office, Range-I, Meerut (UP), on the allegations of demand of illegal gratification of Rs 6,000 on behalf of the accused Superintendent, for revocation of a Show Cause Notice issued to the complainant, said a statement.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Computer Operator red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount on behalf of the Superintendent, CGST, Meerut, it said.

Both the accused persons, Superintendent CGST and Computer Operator, have been arrested, it said.

Earlier, the CBI arrested an Additional Director of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) centre in Meerut, along with her private assistant, in connection with a bribery case linked to the transfer of a staff member, officials said on Friday.

The accused were identified as Natasha Verma, Additional Director, CGHS Meerut, and her Private Assistant, Sunny.

According to the agency, the case was registered on April 30 against the Private Assistant posted at Swasthya Bhawan, CGHS, Suraj Kund Road, Meerut, following allegations that a bribe of Rs 80,000 was being demanded on behalf of officials to facilitate the transfer of a CGHS employee from Moradabad to Meerut.

The CBI laid a trap to catch the accused in the act. During the trap proceedings, both the accused, Natasha Verma, Additional Director, CGHS Meerut, and her Private Assistant, Sunny, allegedly agreed to accept a reduced bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.
