Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand), May 8 (IANS) Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Friday said that the Kailash Utsav-2026 symbolises a unique blend of Indian culture, spirituality and modern thinking while highlighting the growing global prominence of the Adi Kailash region.

Participating in the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of various development projects during Kailash Utsav-2026 at L.S.M. Government Post Graduate College in Pithoragarh, the Chief Minister said the state government is committed to strengthening regional infrastructure and promoting heritage-based tourism.

Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami said the event associated with the name of Lord Shiva reflects the harmonious confluence of spirituality, tradition and modern development.

“This event associated with Lord Shiva’s name represents a wonderful confluence of our culture, spirituality and modern thinking,” he said.

Recalling Narendra Modi’s visit to the region in 2023, the Chief Minister said the Prime Minister had travelled to Adi Kailash, Gunji village, Jageshwar Dham and Pithoragarh, besides offering prayers at Parvati Kund.

“After that visit, Adi Kailash has emerged not only as a major destination for Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand or India, but also as an important place for people across the world,” Dhami said.

Highlighting the growing popularity of the pilgrimage destination, the Chief Minister said the steady rise in the number of visitors to Adi Kailash over the past few years reflects the immense tourism and development potential of the region.

“The way the number of people visiting Adi Kailash has increased in recent years truly reflects the future possibilities and the scale of development that can unfold in the coming times,” he added.

Dhami also expressed satisfaction over the increasing inclination of young people towards Indian culture and traditions.

“It is heartening to see that today’s youth are not only focussed on material progress but are also reconnecting with their cultural roots. Young people between the ages of 15 and 25 are moving away from negativity, social evils and substance abuse, and are embracing our traditions and heritage,” he said.

The Chief Minister also referred to the warm welcome extended to him by local residents during his visit.

“Our sisters and daughters welcomed us with flowers, our youth boosted our enthusiasm with energetic slogans, and our elders blessed us wholeheartedly. I extend my greetings and welcome to all of you,” he said.
