Srinagar, May 10 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that joining the Union Territory’s police service is not merely a career choice, but becoming part of a legacy written in blood.

The Lt Governor handed over appointment letters to newly recruited constables of the Jammu and Kashmir Police during a presentation ceremony at the Armed Police Complex in Zewan.

Around 4,000 recruits were selected through a transparent, merit-based process conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB).

The Lieutenant Governor congratulated the new recruits and exhorted them to discharge their duties with absolute integrity, impartiality and unwavering commitment to national service.

“Joining the Jammu and Kashmir Police is not merely a career choice, but the acceptance of a legacy written in blood. I am confident that you will rise to the occasion and uphold the honour of this glorious force,” he said.

Paying tribute to the brave personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Lieutenant Governor said the peace and progress being witnessed in the Union Territory were the result of the unwavering resolve and sacrifices made by police personnel over the years.

“The Jammu and Kashmir Police stands as a testament to selfless service, duty, sacrifice and public trust. It is recognised as a benchmark of excellence in upholding the rule of law and carrying out counter-terrorism operations,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor also spoke about the changing nature of internal security and called for greater integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in policing operations. He urged the Jammu and Kashmir Police to prepare a roadmap to make the force future-ready.

He said the battlefield had expanded beyond physical borders and warned that emerging threats such as cybercrime, narco-terrorism, digital fraud and narrative warfare were increasingly being driven by technology rather than conventional weaponry.

The Lieutenant Governor reiterated that the complete eradication of terrorism in all its forms and ensuring public safety remained the top priority.

“Today, the world’s most dangerous criminals and terrorists do not always carry weapons; instead, they exploit code, data and encrypted networks to operate across borders. Cybercrime, narco-terrorism, digital fraud and narrative warfare are no longer threats of the distant future; they are the stark realities of the present. They are claiming lives, destroying livelihoods and eroding the trust upon which the stability of every system ultimately rests,” he said.

He also urged recruits across all wings of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to leverage robust digital infrastructure to effectively combat emerging threats.

Gillani; Commandant General Home Guards Abdul Ghani Mir; ADGP Headquarters M.K. Sinha; senior police and civil administration officials; and family members of the new recruits attended the appointment letter presentation ceremony.
