Kolkata, May 11 (IANS) Trinamool Congress MLA and party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh on Monday congratulated Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in a Facebook post.

Kunal Ghosh wrote: “Congratulations and best wishes to the new Chief Minister of Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari. The Trinamool Congress has a specific statement on the voter list, the looting of voting machines, and the counting process. But since it is a new government and there is a new Chief Minister, I offer my good wishes to them. Congratulations and best wishes to the new Opposition leader, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay. The first MLA of the party is a senior, experienced colleague of Mamata Banerjee. Congratulations and best wishes to Trinamool deputy leader Asima Patra.”

In the same post, Kunal Ghosh also congratulated Opposition Chief Whip, Firhad Hakim.

The development came as a surprise, as Kunal Ghosh is a fierce critic of Adhikari and often engaged in verbal duels with him when he was the Leader of the Opposition.

The Beleghata Trinamool Congress MLA also congratulated veteran party leader Sovandeb Chattopadhyay for being made the Leader of the Opposition and Asima Patra as deputy leader.

It may be noted that Suvendu Adhikari and Kunal Ghosh had worked together at one time.

Suvendu Adhikari joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2020.

Since then, the distance between the two has increased.

They attacked each other on various issues.

In fact, on several occasions, Kunal Ghosh described Adhikari as an MLA who won the election after causing a power outage at the counting centre during the 2021 Assembly elections.

However, everything is in the past now.

Currently, Suvendu Adhikari is in the Chief Minister’s seat.

On Monday, Suvendu Adhikari held his first Cabinet meeting after taking the oath as the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

During the first meeting of the newly formed West Bengal Cabinet, presided over by Adhikari, a significant decision was made to allocate land to the Border Security Force for the installation of barbed fencing along the currently unfenced international border with Bangladesh within 45 days.
