Bhopal/Bhind, May 12 (IANS) At least three persons were killed and two others critically injured on Tuesday when a pickup truck that was also transporting livestock crashed into a tree in Dardaua village of Bhind district under Mehgaon police station area.

According to police, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. The incident occurred in the early hours, police officials said.

According to local police officials, the victims were heading toward Dardaua village with a buffalo on board. As the truck approached gate number one at Dardaua Dham, it suddenly veered off the road and crashed into a tree before overturning.

The impact of the collision was so severe that three of the passengers died instantly at the scene.

The deceased have been identified by the authorities as 50-year-old Preetam Manjhi and his son, Sunil Manji, both of whom were residents of Chholi village in Gwalior. The third victim was identified as Upendra Rana, a resident of Lakhnauti village, also in the Gwalior district.

Two other occupants, identified as Ramrup Baghel from Airoli village and Manvendra Thakur, survived the initial crash but sustained life-threatening injuries.

Police teams from the Mehgaon station reached the spot shortly after the accident to recover the bodies and initiate rescue operations.

The injured men were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency assistance. However, after receiving primary treatment, medical professionals determined that their condition was grave and referred both individuals to a specialised facility in Gwalior for advanced medical care.

The local police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to the driver losing control of the pickup truck.

Preliminary reports suggest that the combination of the vehicle’s load and the high impact with the tree caused it to turn turtle, leading to the fatalities. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations before being handed over to their grieving families in Gwalior.
