Srinagar, May 12 (IANS) The J&K Police said on Tuesday that they have arrested two persons with arms, ammunition and posters of the proscribed terror outfit, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), during checking in Srinagar district.

Officials said a police team intercepted two persons on a bike near the Baba Dem area of Srinagar during routine checking. They said the duo was stopped and during the search, police recovered one pistol, three magazines, 21 live rounds, two mobile phones and 10 LeT posters from their possession.

“A case FIR No. 26/2025 under relevant sections of UAPA and Arms Act has been registered, and further investigation has been taken up,” he said. They have been identified as Faisal Ahmad Bhat of Malpora Habba Kadal and Faisal Ahmad Guroo of Rajouri Kadal.

The J&K Police and the security forces have been carrying out aggressive operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers. These operations are part of the revised security strategy aimed at targeting the entire support system of terrorism rather than focusing on only the gun-wielding terrorists.

While police and security forces carry out anti-terror operations in the hinterland, the Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) are deployed on the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border (IB) in J&K.

The LoC guarded by the Army is 740 km long in the Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora districts of the Valley and Poonch, Rajouri and partly in the Jammu district of the Jammu division.

In addition, J&K has a 240 km-long international border (IB) guarded by the BSF in Samba, Kathua and Jammu districts.

The Army and BSF prevent infiltration, exfiltration, smuggling and drone activities initiated by terror outfits from across the LoC and the border with the support of the Pakistan Army and the ISI. Drones are used by terror outfits to drop payloads of arms/ammunition, cash and drugs to sustain terrorism in the union territory. These payloads are picked up by OGWs and passed on to the terrorists.
