Case lodged against SP MP Ajendra Lodhi for derogatory comments on PM Modi

Lucknow, May 12 (IANS) Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ajendra Singh Lodhi has landed in trouble over his distasteful and objectionable comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as the BJP leaders from the constituency approached the police and lodged a case against him on Tuesday.

According to police officials, the SP lawmaker from Mahoba-Hamirpur-Teendwari Lok Sabha constituency has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a detailed probe was launched into his speech at the demonstration, which allegedly turned abusive and derogatory.

The controversy emanated from a protest by the SP workers led by party MP Ajendra Lodhi outside the District Collector’s office, where the latter made distasteful and objectionable comments on PM Modi.

The BJP leaders, who lodged a case against him, claimed that the SP MP called the Prime Minister “anti-national” and also made abusive and personalised comments.

The targeted rant by the SP leader sparked controversy and anger in the BJP ranks, many of whom rushed to the same location in the city, vigorously protesting against the abusive rant and also burned an effigy of the SP lawmaker. Many BJP workers raised demands for immediate action against him.

Later, a BJP delegation led by the district media in-charge Satendra Gupta reached the police station and got a case registered against Ajendra Lodhi.

Earlier, the Samajwadi Party workers staging a protest outside the Collectorate questioned the government over problems of power cuts, drinking water crisis, malfunctioning in smart metres, and also the crop insurance scam. As the party workers engaged in sloganeering and vociferous protests, the Mahoba MP crossed the line and allegedly hurled disparaging jibes at the Prime Minister.

The MP questioned the state government and the Centre on various issues, including the closure of hundreds of schools, and also alleged manipulation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the recently concluded West Bengal elections. He asserted that Uttar Pradesh will not fall victim to the EC’s antics and will form the government in the state next year.

Now, with the police lodging a case against the SP MP, the already charged-up political atmosphere is only going to aggravate, leading to a fresh govt-Opposition showdown.

Meanwhile, the Mahoba police remain on high alert and have also stepped up vigil in the area, anticipating further tension and possible clashes between supporters of the two parties.
