Patna, May 12 (IANS) Senior RJD leader and former Bihar minister Bagi Kumar Verma passed away on Monday night at the age of 77 while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi.

His demise has cast a pall of grief across the Jehanabad district and the Arwal district.

His mortal remains were brought to the party office of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), where leaders and workers gathered to pay their final respects.

The atmosphere turned sombre as party members, with tearful eyes, offered floral tributes.

RJD National Working President Tejashwi Yadav, State President Mangani Lal Mandal, senior leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui, and several others paid homage by garlanding the mortal remains.

Expressing his condolences, Tejashwi Yadav described Bagi Kumar Verma as an honest and committed leader.

“In this hour of grief, we stand in solidarity with his family. Bagi Verma was, first and foremost, a socialist leader, and we shared a close bond with him and his family,” he said.

He further added that Verma was known for his simple personality, resilience, and unwavering dedication to public service, praying for peace to the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family.

Samrat Choudhary, Chief Minister of Bihar, also expressed deep sorrow over the veteran leader’s demise, calling it an irreparable loss to both the political and social spheres.

Bagi Kumar Verma hailed from Jhaman Bigha village in the Makhdumpur block.

He had been unwell for a prolonged period and was undergoing treatment in Delhi for the past few months. He breathed his last on May 11.

A seasoned politician, Verma served as an RJD MLA for the Makhdumpur Assembly constituency from 1995 to 2005.

He later won the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections from the Kurtha constituency in Arwal district on an RJD ticket.

During his political career, he also served as Minister of State for the Food and Supplies Department in the RJD government.

His passing has left his family, supporters, and party workers in deep shock, with tributes continuing to pour in from across the state.
