Guhan Senthilkumar-Sandhesh advance to National doubles squash QF

Chennai, May 13 (IANS) The Tamil Nadu duo of Guhan Senthilkumar and Sandhesh PR advanced to the men’s doubles quarterfinals of the National Doubles Squash Championships with impressive performances at the Indian Squash Academy on Wednesday.

In the round of 16, the local pair showed their strength by defeating Naman Surana and Pranav Agarwal in straight games, 11-1, 11-2. The Tamil Nadu team controlled the rallies from the beginning and finished the match decisively.

Shubham and Vedant Patel also delivered an impressive performance. The duo overcame Akashay Deepak and Parthiban with scores of 11-8, 10-12, and 11-2 in straight games.

Mathew Godwin and Navaneeth Prabhu secured their spot in the quarterfinals after a comfortable 11-4, 11-6 victory against Vidik Karkashe and Yash Sonwani.

Ravi Dixit and Vikas Mehra also advanced, cruising past Ajinkya Shinde and Omkar Avhad with scores of 11-3, 11-4.

In the women’s doubles Group B round-robin, Janet Vidhi and Pooja Arthi moved forward after Kriya Saravanan and Nandikasree retired from the match.

The mixed doubles round of 16 featured an exciting comeback win. Ravi Dixit and Janet Vidhi rallied after losing the first game to defeat Dinesh R and Ananya Narayan, finishing with scores of 4-11, 11-5, and 11-8.

On Thursday, attention will shift to top Indian squash stars Velavan Senthilkumar, who is partnering with Abhay Singh in the men’s doubles event, and veteran Joshna Chinappa in mixed doubles.

Men’s doubles (round of 16): Shubham/ Vedant Patel bt Akashay Deepak/ Parthiban 11-8, 10-12, 11-2; Mathew Godwin/ Navaneeth Prabhu bt Vidik Karkashe/ Yash Sonwani 11-4, 11-6; Ravi Dixit/ Vikas Mehra bt Ajinkya Shinde/ Omkar Avhad 11-3,11-4; Guhan Senthilkumar/ Sandhesh PR bt Naman Surana/ Pranav Agarwal 11-1, 11-2.

Women’s doubles: Group B (round robin): Janet Vidhi/ Pooja Arthi bt Kriya Saravanan/ Nandikasree (retd).

Mixed doubles (round of 16): Ravi Dixit/ Janet Vidhi bt Dinesh R/ Ananya Narayan 4-11, 11-5, 11-8.
