Kolkata, May 13 (IANS) The Kolkata Police have taken strong steps to further enhance the law and order skills of police personnel working in various divisions of the city police, officials said on Wednesday.

A senior Kolkata Police officer has said that special guidelines have been issued to improve discipline, coordination and teamwork within the police force.

The new guidelines issued by Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nand said that regular ‘Master Parades’ will be organised in each division of the city every 15 days and a special training programme will be mandatory along with it.

According to the police officer, in recent times, during various law and order situations, protests, processions or crowd control; there has been a lack of adequate coordination among many police personnel, especially those in the unarmed wing.

In some places, there has also been a lack of skills required for quick decision-making, teamwork or crowd control. That is why this new step has been taken to make the entire police force more effective and modern.

According to the instructions issued by the Kolkata Police Commissioner, it is mandatory to organise ‘Master Parades’ once every 15 days in each division of the city.

Not only the parade, but special training camps on ‘crowd management’, ‘team building’ and law and order management techniques will be held.

The presence of police personnel of all ranks, starting from Constables, has been made mandatory in this training.

The guidelines also state that a specific register should be maintained in each division, where the details of which police personnel have participated in the training will be recorded.

In addition, a complete report in this regard should be submitted to the Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) every month.

According to a section of the police, currently, political programmes, religious festivals, road blockades, protests and crowd management incidents in the city have increased than before.

That is why besides handling weapons, but also the ability to understand the situation and take quick action, judge the mood of the public and work in coordination with colleagues have also become very important. This new training programme is being launched with that aim.

High-ranking officials of Kolkata Police claim that discipline within the police force will be strengthened as a result of this initiative.

At the same time, the confidence and mental preparedness of the police personnel working at the field level will also increase.

It is also known that after this order came into effect, training schedules have been started in each division of the city.

Parades and training will soon start in all units as per the new rules.
