Jaipur, May 13 (IANS) Rajasthan Police carried out a large-scale statewide blockade and enforcement campaign last week as part of an intensified drive to strengthen law and order and tighten surveillance on criminal activities across the state.

The special two-day operation was conducted under the direction of Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma and covered multiple police ranges across Rajasthan.

According to Additional Director General (Law and Order) V.K. Singh, the campaign was conducted in the Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Jaipur ranges on the first day, followed by operations in the Bharatpur, Udaipur, and Kota ranges on the second day.

During the drive, police established 727 blockades and conducted extensive inspections of vehicles and suspicious persons.

Officials said a total of 16,676 two-wheelers and 18,795 four-wheelers were checked during the operation.

Strict action was taken against traffic violators and individuals found engaging in suspicious activities.

During the campaign, police booked 262 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Additionally, 1,173 challans were issued against two-wheeler riders for not wearing helmets, while 1,213 motorists were penalised for driving without seatbelts.

Police also took action against 75 drivers for using mobile phones while driving.

The crackdown further targeted vehicles with non-standard number plates and illegally tinted windows.

Authorities registered 857 cases of improper or illegible number plates and 739 cases of black film or tinted windows.

Additionally, 2,856 cases were registered under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, bringing the total number of Motor Vehicles Act proceedings during the campaign to 7,185.

Range-wise, the highest number of cases were registered in the Jodhpur Range, where police initiated action in 1,633 cases.

The Udaipur Range recorded 1,583 cases, followed by Jaipur with 1,094 cases.

Police also registered 954 cases in the Bikaner Range, 986 in Bharatpur, and 935 in Kota.

Apart from traffic enforcement, the operation also led to action against illegal weapons, narcotics, illicit liquor, and illegal mining activities.

Police registered 53 First Information Reports under the Excise Act, and 10 First Information Reports each under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Eight vehicles were also seized under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

During the drive, 89 individuals were arrested in connection with various First Information Reports and criminal cases, while 161 persons were detained under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

In the Kota Range, police registered six cases related to illegal sharp-edged weapons and seized nearly 200 litres of country liquor.

Authorities also launched a major crackdown on illegal mining and transportation activities, seizing around 75 tonnes of black gravel along with four dumpers, four tractors, three pickup vehicles, and three trailers.

Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma said such intensive blockade and enforcement drives would continue across Rajasthan to ensure effective control over crime, improve compliance with traffic rules, and strengthen public security.

He directed police officials to maintain strict vigilance over suspicious activities and ensure prompt action against criminals.
