Koderma, May 14 (IANS) A 30-year-old woman was brutally murdered after unidentified assailants allegedly slit her throat inside her house in broad daylight on Thursday in Jharkhand’s Koderma district, sending shockwaves across the locality and raising concerns over security arrangements in residential areas.

The deceased was identified as Neha Raj, wife of Shambhu Rana and a resident of Mitko Colony under the Sadar police station area of the district headquarters.

According to police officials and local residents, the incident came to light around 12:30 p.m. when the victim’s younger son returned home from school in a van. As he entered the house, the child reportedly found his mother lying in a pool of blood inside a room.

Terrified by the sight, the boy ran out of the house screaming for help. Hearing his cries, neighbours rushed to the spot and immediately informed the woman’s husband and other family members.

With the help of local residents, the severely injured woman was rushed to the Sadar Hospital in Koderma. However, doctors declared her dead after the preliminary examination.

The gruesome daylight murder triggered panic in the locality, with a large number of residents gathering outside the house soon after news of the incident spread.

Locals expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and questioned the safety of people living in residential colonies.

Taking serious note of the incident, officers from Koderma Sadar police station, including Sub-Divisional Police Officer Anil Kumar Singh, reached the hospital and later visited the crime site to collect details related to the case.

Police have taken custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. A forensic investigation has also been initiated.

According to preliminary findings, police suspect the murder was premeditated.

Investigators believe that a sharp-edged weapon was used to slit the victim’s throat.

Police officials said family members, neighbours and other local residents are being questioned to ascertain the motive behind the killing and identify those involved in the crime.

No arrests had been made till the filing of this report.
