New Delhi, May 14 (IANS) Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption and avoid foreign travel in order to save foreign exchange, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Virendra Sachdeva said on Thursday that these are emergency measures taken in the national interest and announced party’s fuel saving steps.

Sachdeva also welcomed the Delhi government’s announcements on fuel conservation made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and said the State BJP will also conduct party meetings online to contribute towards fuel conservation.

The State BJP chief added that, along with the entire country, the people of Delhi understand the importance of the Prime Minister’s appeal for saving foreign exchange, and all Delhi residents will support his call to reduce petrol and diesel usage by increasingly adopting measures such as public transport and carpooling.

Sachdeva said that all Delhi BJP office bearers and workers will also comply with the appeals of Prime Minister Modi and the Delhi government by reducing their petrol and diesel consumption.

Delhi BJP will also conduct party meetings online to contribute towards fuel conservation, he added.

Sachdeva’s decisions come on a day when Delhi Chief Minister launched a ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan’ campaign to save fuel.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also announced the Delhi government’s major steps to promote fuel conservation, public transport, Made-in-India products and responsible living.

“The Delhi government also announced two days of work from home each week, except for essential services, and decided to reduce the fuel consumption of vehicles used in government offices,” a statement said.

The Chief Minister said that every Monday would be observed as ‘Metro Monday’ with government employees and Ministers trying to use public transport.

“Delhi Ministers and officials will avoid official foreign tours for one year, and large government events will also be curtailed,” the statement added.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta added that special route plans for 58 feeder buses have been prepared to connect 29 government colonies with Metro stations.

She said that every citizen has an opportunity to serve the nation by saving fuel and using public transport, as small efforts will become India’s greatest strength.
