India aims to triple milk production in next 10 years under ‘White Revolution 2.0’: HM Amit Shah

Gandhinagar, May 17 (IANS) Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the Centre had set a target of tripling India’s milk production over the next decade under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘White Revolution 2.0’ initiative.

HM Shah made the announcement while inaugurating Madhur Dairy’s newly constructed milk processing and packaging plant at Dashela village in Gandhinagar district.

Addressing dairy farmers and livestock rearers, Union Minister Amit Shah said India’s cooperative dairy network would play a central role in boosting milk production and increasing rural incomes.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has planned under ‘White Revolution 2.0’ to triple milk production in 10 years,” HM Shah said.

He said Gujarat’s dairy cooperatives, including Amul, Banas Dairy and Mehsana Dairy, had adopted world-class technologies to improve productivity and enhance returns for livestock rearers.

“I can certainly say that Amul and all the dairies of Gujarat have brought world-class technology to India and increased the profits of our livestock rearers,” he said.

HM Shah said technology-driven expansion in the dairy sector was helping farmers diversify into value-added products and strengthen income streams.

He noted that dairy cooperatives were now producing protein shakes, probiotic curd, high-protein beverages and several nutrition-based products.

He also referred to the growing market presence of Amul’s sugar-free chocolate products. “Amul’s sugar-free chocolate is number one in sugar-free chocolate sales across India,” HM Shah said, adding that the benefits ultimately reached farmers and livestock rearers associated with the cooperative network.

The Union minister also spoke about the role of digital tools in agriculture and livestock management.

Referring to Amul’s AI digital assistant “Sarlaben”, launched recently by Prime Minister Modi, HM Shah said the platform would assist women in villages engaged in farming and animal husbandry activities.

“This AI platform of Amul is going to play a major role in the agriculture and livestock sector in the coming days,” he said.

HM Shah also announced that the government had fixed a target of increasing income in the dairy sector by at least 20 per cent through the adoption of a circular economy model.

“In the coming days, we have set a target to increase dairy income by at least 20 per cent through the use of circular economy in the dairy sector,” he said.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Cooperation Minister Jitu Vaghani, Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Madhur Dairy officials, cooperative leaders and dairy farmers from Gandhinagar district.
