Guwahati, May 17 (IANS) The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and security by successfully carrying out a series of operations at different locations across the zone, officials said on Sunday.

NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said three persons were arrested in separate operations and several stolen mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

He said a team from the Anti Drugging Squad in Guwahati apprehended one individual last week onboard the New Delhi-Guwahati Purvottar Sampark Kranti Express for his alleged involvement in the theft of passengers’ belongings. Two stolen mobile phones, valued at around Rs 30,000, were recovered from his possession.

The accused, along with the recovered items, was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Guwahati, where a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered.

In another operation conducted last week, personnel from the RPF Post at Katihar (East) apprehended one person at Katihar Railway Station in Bihar. A stolen mobile phone worth around Rs 32,000 was recovered from the accused, who was subsequently handed over to the GRP, Katihar.

A case under relevant sections of the BNS has been registered in connection with the incident.

Continuing its crackdown on theft and other unlawful activities, the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) team of Rangiya in Assam apprehended one person onboard the New Tinsukia-Amritsar Express at Rangiya Railway Station.

Two stolen mobile phones worth around Rs 25,000 were recovered from the accused, who was later handed over to the GRP, Rangiya, for further legal proceedings.

CPRO Sharma said these successful operations underscored the vigilance and swift response of RPF personnel in ensuring the safety and security of passengers and their belongings.

He added that the Northeast Frontier Railway remained committed to providing a safe and secure travelling environment and appealed to passengers to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to railway authorities.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), headquartered at Maligaon near Guwahati, operates across the Northeastern states as well as in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of north Bihar.
