Opposition criticism for recruitment political stunt, says Haryana CM

Chandigarh, May 18 (IANS) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday said the criticism by the Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) over recruitment by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) “is merely a political stunt”.

He said the recruitment both by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and the HPSC “is completely transparent, and jobs are provided to youth solely on the basis of merit”.

The Chief Minister told the media here that during the tenure of the Congress and the INLD they never gave priority to merit, due to which not only the youth but also their parents had lost faith in the government.

At that time, people had started believing that education and hard work would not help securing jobs.

“However, the present government introduced a transparent recruitment system under which any deserving youth can secure employment in Haryana on the basis of merit.”

The Chief Minister said when youth from Haryana are getting jobs through UPSC and in states such as Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and others, then why should candidates from other states not get jobs in Haryana.

He said this “is a constitutional system under which any youth can secure employment in any state on the basis of capability and merit. Recruitment on the basis of merit in Haryana is proof of the transparency of the state’s recruitment process”.

Replying to another question, the Chief Minister said due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East an energy crisis has emerged across the world.

“Therefore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens to make every possible effort to conserve energy.”

He said citizens should make maximum use of walking, bicycles, trains and other forms of public transport, and use private vehicles only when necessary.

He added, “This is not a problem of one country or India alone, but a global issue, and collective cooperation is needed to overcome it.”

The Chief Minister said the government has also directed government offices to conduct as many meetings as possible through virtual mode and adopt work-from-home practices wherever feasible.

He said along with the entire country, the people of Haryana are also following the appeal of the Prime Minister, and all are confident that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, the country will succeed in building a developed, strong and empowered India.

In response to another question, the Chief Minister said that Congress “today is lamenting inflation, whereas the reality is that inflation had become uncontrolled during the Congress regime”.

He said the Congress, just like during the Covid period, is indulging in politics even in the present situation, whereas this is not the time for politics but for collective cooperation to control the crisis.

“Due to the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country not only succeeded in overcoming the COVID crisis but inflation has also remained under control during the last eleven and a half years,” the Chief Minister added.
