Odisha: Class 12 results declared with 85.85 pass percentage

Bhubaneswar, May 20 (IANS) The School and Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Nityananda Gond on Wednesday declared the result for the 12th class examinations organised by the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, earlier this year.

The results for Science, Arts, Commerce and Vocational streams were announced simultaneously by the minister during a press conference at the office of CHSE, Odisha, here. The minister informed that the overall pass percentage this year stood at 85.85 per cent.

The Science stream recorded a pass percentage of 88.82 per cent, Arts 84.50 per cent, Commerce 88.07 per cent and Vocational Education 77.62 per cent.

On the occasion, Minister Nityananda Gond made a special announcement stating that for the first time, students who have passed all subjects will be allowed to appear for an Improvement examination in any one subject to improve their marks.

The minister said this would provide students with a good opportunity to improve their scores. The minister also expressed satisfaction over the smooth and transparent conduct of the examinations across the state without any major irregularities or disruptions being reported.

As per the official record, a total of 3,98,090 students from both regular and ex-regular categories had appeared for the examinations held earlier this year.

Meanwhile, out of the total students taken the exam, as many as 3,41,781 students passed. As many as 2,14,738 students cleared the Arts stream examinations, while 1,11,004 passed in science, 21,393 in Commerce and 4,546 in Vocational Education.

In the Arts stream, Sambalpur district recorded the highest pass percentage at 89.48 per cent, while Nabarangpur district registered the lowest at 77.14 per cent. Similarly, in the science stream, Balasore district recorded the highest pass percentage at 96.63 per cent, while Koraput district registered the lowest at 77.14 per cent. Boudh district achieved the highest pass percentage with 100 per cent results, while Balangir recorded the lowest at 77.25 per cent in the commerce stream.

Meanwhile, Nabarangpur district registered the highest pass percentage at 100 per cent, while Malkangiri recorded the lowest at 55.22 per cent in the Vocational Education category.
