New Delhi, May 20 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) following his purported controversial remark. Chief Minister Yadav’s Delhi counterpart Rekha Gupta also criticised LoP Gandhi’s remarks.

Rahul Gandhi, during a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli, alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were “traitors” who had worked to “sell India”.

Speaking to reporters, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Yadav called Rahul Gandhi’s statement as “unfortunate”.

“The kind of language being used by the Leader of the Opposition is an insult to the entire democracy,” he said.

He added that there are two major positions in the Parliament, that of the Leader of the House and the Leader of Opposition. He noted that the latter keeps the democracy alive.

The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said: “It is still understandable if statements are made in accordance to the policy. But the kind of language he is using, Rahul Gandhi should resign immediately and Congress should take action against him.”

According to Chief Minister Yadav, such remarks cannot be the language of democracy.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta asserted that both Rahul Gandhi and Congress currently stand “rejected” by the people.

“LoP Gandhi’s defeats are frustrating him because of which he is making such statements,” she told reporters.

Taking a jibe at the Congress MP for carrying a pocket size copy of the Indian Constitution, Delhi CM Gupta said: “He (Rahul Gandhi) should sometimes read the copy of the Constitution that he keeps carrying everywhere.”

“Making such remarks against the Leader of the House, reflects Gandhi’s “poor mindset, language and upbringing,” she added.

The Delhi Chief Minister also said: “The entire country knows that since the time of Independence, which politician and whose family betrayed the nation.”

“So far all the scams which have been exposed, took place during the reign of the Congress,” she added.

Chief Minister Gupta remarked that people will seek answers from them (Congress) even during the next Assembly polls.

“Just like they have been repeatedly losing in every election, it will keep repeating in the future as well,” she said.
