Guwahati, May 20 (IANS) The introduction of modern and passenger-friendly Amrit Bharat Express trains from various stations in Assam and West Bengal under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has emerged as a major success story for the Indian Railways, officials said on Wednesday.

NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that the Amrit Bharat Express trains were receiving exceptional appreciation and an overwhelming response from passengers across the country.

He said that the impressive occupancy and earnings figures clearly reflected the growing popularity, affordability, comfort and reliability of these services among the travelling public.

The Amrit Bharat Express services connecting key destinations such as Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Alipurduar Junction and New Jalpaiguri with major cities across India have recorded remarkable passenger utilisation since their introduction in January 2026, Sharma stated.

According to the official, several services registered occupancy levels significantly above 100 per cent, highlighting the immense public demand and the increasing preference among passengers for these trains.

A total of seven pairs of Amrit Bharat Express trains are presently originating from Assam and West Bengal under the jurisdiction of the NFR.

The Northeast Frontier Railway, headquartered at Maligaon near Guwahati, operates across the Northeastern states as well as in seven districts of West Bengal and five districts of north Bihar.

These services include trains operating between Kamakhya and Rohtak, Dibrugarh and Gomti Nagar, Alipurduar Junction and SMVT Bengaluru, Alipurduar Junction and Panvel, Kamakhya and Charlapalli, New Jalpaiguri and Tiruchchirappalli, and New Jalpaiguri and Nagercoil.

All these services have been receiving highly encouraging passenger patronage and are significantly strengthening rail connectivity between the Northeast and different regions of the country, the NFR CPRO said.

Among the major achievements, the Amrit Bharat Express operating between Kamakhya and Rohtak witnessed outstanding passenger patronage, with utilisation reaching up to 136 per cent.

Similarly, the Amrit Bharat Express connecting Dibrugarh and Gomti Nagar recorded impressive occupancy figures exceeding 140 per cent on multiple trips, demonstrating the immense popularity of the service and growing public confidence in it.

During this period, these Amrit Bharat Express trains carried more than 1.78 lakh passengers and generated earnings exceeding Rs 23 crore, highlighting the remarkable success of the services, Sharma said.

Designed especially for common passengers, Amrit Bharat trains provide enhanced comfort and an improved travel experience with modern interiors, better amenities, spacious seating arrangements and economical fares.

The services are not only improving passenger convenience but are also contributing significantly to regional development, tourism promotion and economic integration by strengthening connectivity between the Northeast and the rest of the country, the CPRO said.

He said that the Northeast Frontier Railway remained committed to continuously enhancing passenger amenities and delivering safe, efficient and passenger-centric railway services.

The remarkable success of the Amrit Bharat Express trains reflects the Indian Railways’ vision of inclusive growth, modernisation and accessible transportation for all sections of society.
