Agartala, May 21 (IANS) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday said that Tripura has become the first state in the country to introduce the ‘Track Me’ feature in the 112 India mobile application, aimed at enhancing the safety and security of women and elderly citizens.

Addressing the passing-out parade of the newly recruited 91st and 92nd batches of recruit constables (men and women) at the KTD Singh Police Training Academy in Narsingarh, on the outskirts of Agartala, the Chief Minister said that the state government is working continuously to improve the policing system in Tripura.

“Today (Thursday), the ‘Track Me’ feature in the 112 India Application was added and launched in Tripura for the first time in the country. Women and elderly people will especially benefit from this initiative,” said Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has been consistently working towards empowering women, which he described as a matter of pride for Tripura.

“It has often been observed in different sectors that women are more sincere, disciplined, and honest in carrying out their responsibilities. I believe the Tripura Police Force is going to become stronger with the inclusion of these newly trained personnel. Tripura Police has already been honoured with the President’s Colours and has also completed 150 years of service. Today, a woman commander led the entire parade, which is a matter of immense pride and joy for all of us,” he said.

According to Saha, Tripura Police now occupies an important position not only in the Northeast but also across the country.

Police personnel have also received training in technical and modern policing methods.

The government will continue to provide all necessary support in this regard, he stated.

The Chief Minister added that besides physical drills, the recruits were also trained in legal procedures and various specialised areas such as jungle warfare, field craft, and disaster management.

The Chief Minister also announced that appointment letters would soon be issued to 218 Sub-Inspectors in the Tripura Police as part of the government’s continued efforts to strengthen the state’s policing system.

“The state cabinet has already approved the recruitment of 916 more police constables, and the recruitment process is currently underway,” he added.

Saha further said that Tripura became the first state in India to organise an exhibition on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Hapania International Fair Grounds last year.

He added that the state had secured the third position in the implementation of the new criminal laws, which were introduced in the country on July 1, 2024.

“We want Tripura to emerge as one of the leading states in the policing system in the country. Around eight to nine months ago, I had requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to sanction two Indian Reserve (IR) battalions for the Tripura State Rifles (TSR). One battalion had already been sanctioned earlier, and now another battalion has also been approved. The process related to the matter is underway,” he said.

The Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for extending support to Tripura in strengthening its security infrastructure.

“This will not only create more employment opportunities but will also significantly strengthen the overall security system of the state,” he added.

Director General of Police Anurag, Principal of KTD Singh Police Training Academy Jayanta Chakraborty, and other senior police officials were present at the passing-out parade ceremony.
