Six of top-10 most valued firms add Rs 74,111 crore in market cap last week

Mumbai, May 24 (IANS) The combined market valuation of six of the country’s top-10 most valued companies increased by Rs 74,111.57 crore last week, led by gains in ICICI Bank, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), Bajaj Finance and Larsen & Toubro amid a positive trend in equities.

During the week, the BSE benchmark index rose by 177.36 points, or 0.23 per cent.

Among the top-10 valued firms, ICICI Bank, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro and LIC emerged as the major gainers, while HDFC Bank, Bharti Airtel, State Bank of India (SBI) and Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) witnessed a decline in their market valuation.

The market capitalisation of TCS jumped by Rs 19,338.68 crore to Rs 8,38,401.33 crore. ICICI Bank added Rs 14,515.93 crore, taking its valuation to Rs 9,06,901.32 crore.

LIC’s valuation climbed by Rs 9,076.37 crore to Rs 5,14,443.69 crore during the week.

Bajaj Finance also witnessed an increase of Rs 3,797.83 crore in its market capitalisation, which reached Rs 5,70,515.57 crore.

Larsen and Toubro added Rs 2,685.87 crore, taking its valuation to Rs 5,40,228.21 crore.

On the losing side, Bharti Airtel saw the sharpest decline as its market valuation dropped by Rs 20,229.67 crore to Rs 11,40,295.49 crore.

The valuation of Hindustan Unilever eroded by Rs 16,212.18 crore to Rs 5,17,380 crore, while State Bank of India’s market capitalisation declined by Rs 12,784.4 crore to Rs 8,76,077.92 crore.

HDFC Bank also faced a dip of Rs 2,094.35 crore in its valuation, which stood at Rs 11,79,974.90 crore.

In the ranking of the most valued firms, HDFC Bank remained among the top companies, followed by Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, SBI, TCS, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever and LIC.
