Twisha Sharma’s final rites today in Bhopal after 2nd autopsy by AIIMS Delhi team

Bhopal, May 24 (IANS) Thirteen days after model-turned-actor Twisha Sharma allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal, her final rites will be performed at Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat at 5 p.m. on Sunday after a second post-mortem examination is conducted by a team of senior doctors from AIIMS-Delhi at AIIMS-Bhopal.

The fresh autopsy was ordered following objections raised by Twisha’s family regarding the initial post-mortem report conducted on May 13.

A four-member medical board from AIIMS Delhi arrived in Bhopal on Saturday evening to carry out the second examination and interact with the family over their concerns. The team is led by Dr Sudhir Gupta, the Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine, AIIMS Delhi.

In an emotional statement issued ahead of the cremation, Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, said the family had endured “profound grief, unbearable sorrow, and prolonged uncertainty” over the past 13 days.

“It is with profound grief, unbearable sorrow, and a heavy heart that the family of Late Twisha Sharma announces that her final rites and cremation shall be performed today at 5:00 PM at Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat, Bhopal,” the statement said.

The family said the delay in conducting the cremation had intensified their emotional trauma, especially as several Hindu post-death rituals are traditionally completed within the 13-day mourning period.

“Twisha’s family is only now able to perform her cremation. This painful reality has left the family emotionally shattered,” the statement added.

Twisha Sharma was found dead on May 12 under circumstances that sparked public outrage and demands for an impartial probe.

The Sharma family reiterated that it has cooperated fully with the investigation and continues to place faith in the legal process.

“The family’s only request is that all investigations be conducted fairly, transparently, independently, and strictly in accordance with law,” the statement said.

Her husband, Samarth Singh, who was arrested on Friday evening from Jabalpur, was sent to seven days’ police remand by a Bhopal district court on Saturday.
