New Delhi, May 25 (IANS) Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta joined the “Metro Monday” campaign to save fuel and travelled to Vidhan Sabha from his residence at Tilak Marg in public transport, an official said.

Beginning his journey from the Supreme Court Metro Station, Speaker Gupta interacted with commuters and highlighted the importance of adopting eco-friendly modes of travel in daily life.

During his journey, Gupta changed trains at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station and proceeded towards Vidhan Sabha Metro Station, from where he reached the Delhi Legislative Assembly, the official said in a statement.

Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for fuel conservation, the “Metro Monday” initiative encourages citizens to use public transport and save fuel.

The initiative also aims to promote sustainable urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and strengthen public participation in environmentally responsible practices across the national capital, an official said.

Starting last Monday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Cabinet Ministers, and other government functionaries joined the “Metro Monday” campaign to save fuel and spread the message of optimal use of public transport.

“Metro Monday” is a Delhi government initiative as part of the “Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan” campaign, promoting conservation at a time when fuel prices have become a politically sensitive issue.

Under the initiative, Delhi government ministers and officials used public transport, including the Delhi Metro and other sustainable modes.

Minister for Social Welfare, SC/ST/OBC Welfare, Cooperatives, and Elections Ravinder Indraj Singh travelled to the Delhi Secretariat using Metro and feeder bus services last week as part of the “Metro Monday” initiative, conveying the message of public participation, fuel conservation, and responsible citizenship.

“The citizens of Delhi are playing a significant role in responding to the Prime Minister’s appeal by prioritising public transport, carpooling, energy conservation, and adopting Make in India initiatives,” said Labour Minister Kapil Mishra, while travelling by Metro and Metro Feeder Bus last week.

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood was also seen taking a metro ride in support of the fuel-saving initiative. He interacted with several passengers during the journey and urged citizens to adopt sustainable modes of transport.
