Patna, May 27 (IANS) The Samrat Choudhary government’s proposed satellite township project faced strong resistance in Sitamarhi on Wednesday, as local farmers and residents staged a major protest against the planned Sitapuram Satellite Township.

The township initiative is part of a larger plan announced by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary to develop satellite townships at 11 locations across the state.

A special camp regarding claims and objections related to the project was organised at a school premises in the Punoura police station area.

However, large numbers of villagers gathered at the site and protested against the proposed land acquisition.

During the demonstration, protesters raised slogans against the government and the Chief Minister, leading to a tense atmosphere at the venue.

The uproar reportedly forced officials to leave without completing the proceedings.

Villagers expressed concerns that the proposed township would adversely affect their homes, farmland, and ancestral property.

Protesters alleged that the government was attempting to acquire agricultural land without providing adequate information or satisfactory assurances.

Many residents accused the administration of trying to mislead people under the guise of dialogue and consultation.

The protesters asserted that they would oppose the project at any cost and would not surrender their land for the township’s development.

According to Dolly Jha, the Circle Officer of Punaura block, the camp was organised to conduct the claims and objections process transparently and fairly, while ensuring that affected individuals did not face inconvenience.

Officials received applications and scrutinised relevant documents before the situation escalated.

To maintain law and order, personnel from the Punoura Police Station were deployed at the site.

The administration attempted to persuade the protesters to present their objections peacefully, but discussions could not proceed amid the intense demonstrations.

The incident has highlighted growing tensions surrounding land acquisition and urban development projects in parts of Bihar, particularly where agricultural land and rural settlements are involved.
