Rajasthan politics heats up over Hanuman Beniwal’s remarks, BJP hits back

Jaipur, May 28 (IANS) Rajasthan’s political climate has intensified following controversial remarks by RLP chief and Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal targeting Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and members of the state Cabinet.

The statement triggered sharp reactions from BJP leaders, who strongly condemned Beniwal’s language and launched a counterattack.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Jawahar Singh Bedham criticised Beniwal’s remarks, saying a controversial video statement by the Nagaur MP was circulating widely on social media.

Referring to the language allegedly used against the Chief Minister and Cabinet ministers, Bedham remarked, “The kind of language being used is unacceptable. As a Member of Parliament, one is expected to maintain the dignity of the office and exercise restraint in public discourse.”

Taking a further swipe at the RLP leader, Bedham stated, “People across Rajasthan are questioning whether such statements are being made under the influence of alcohol. Such language will not be tolerated.”

BJP State President Madan Rathore also termed Beniwal’s remarks “unfortunate and condemnable”. He stated that while disagreement and criticism are natural elements of democracy, political discourse must remain within the bounds of civility and decorum.

Rathore further argued that public representatives who employ derogatory language should face public accountability and urged the media not to provide undue publicity merely for sensationalism or TRP gains.

Meanwhile, BJP Chief Spokesperson Ramlal Sharma also reacted strongly, alleging that Beniwal’s remarks reflected political opportunism and were disrespectful toward a constitutional office. “These remarks showcase your family values. People of Rajasthan are well aware of the state of intoxication in which you make such remarks.”

The controversy erupted during a Mahapanchayat organised over the ongoing ‘Remove RIICO, Save Bhairana Dham’ movement opposing the proposed RIICO industrial zone in Bichoon.

Hanuman Beniwal, who attended the gathering in Bhairana village, sharply criticised the Rajasthan government and allegedly used objectionable language while referring to Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.

Beniwal accused the BJP government of failing to protect the interests of saints and religious institutions despite claiming commitment to Sanatan values. He described the proposed industrial zone decision as “misguided” and demanded that the RIICO project be shifted elsewhere. He also sought official recognition of Dadu Palka as a religious tourism destination.

The remarks have since sparked a fresh political confrontation between the RLP and the BJP in Rajasthan.
