Patna, May 28 (IANS) In a major late-night operation in the Turkauliya area of Motihari under Bihar’s East Champaran district, police recovered Rs 24.91 lakh in cash from a white-coloured car during a vehicle inspection drive and arrested four individuals, including two Nepali nationals.

The incident occurred at Nimuiya Chowk when personnel from the Turkauliya Police Station were conducting intensive vehicle checks.

During the operation, officers stopped a car arriving from the Muzaffarpur side for routine verification.

Suspicion arose after the occupants failed to produce valid documents related to the cash being transported.

Following a detailed search of the vehicle, police recovered Indian currency amounting to Rs 24,91,300.

Officers present at the scene were reportedly shocked by the sudden discovery of such a large quantity of cash.

All four occupants of the car were immediately detained and taken to the police station for interrogation.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Krishna Sahani, Subhash Kumar, Dipesh Kumar Yadav, and Prajjwal Sahani.

Krishna Sahani is a resident of Laxmipur in the Adapur police station area, while Subhash Kumar belongs to Katkenwa in the Nakardei police station area.

The remaining two accused, Dipesh Kumar Yadav and Prajjwal Sahani, are residents of Ramnagar in Nepal’s Bara district under the Simraungadh police station jurisdiction.

According to an official statement issued by the East Champaran police, none of the accused could provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source or intended destination of the money.

“They also failed to furnish any supporting documents linked to the recovered cash. As a result, all four individuals were formally arrested, and the vehicle used in the transport was seized,” an official said in a written statement.

Investigators are now probing multiple angles of the case, including possible hawala transactions and cross-border smuggling.

The involvement of two Nepali nationals has heightened suspicions of illegal financial flows across the Indo-Nepal border.

An investigating officer stated that further legal action is underway and that every aspect of the case will be thoroughly examined.

Police are specifically trying to determine where the cash originated and where it was being transported.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Sampat Kumar, Joint Station In-charge of the Turkauliya Police Station.

The raiding team also included Sub-Inspectors Ramsewak Singh and Kanhaiyalal, along with Santosh Kumar Patel, Constable Dhananjay Kumar, and members of the armed police force.
