Influencer Ronisha Satti blames police inaction over harassment by fiance for suicide

Jammu, May 29 (IANS) Social media influencer Ronisha Satti, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital after allegedly attempting suicide, blamed the police for not taking any action over alleged harrasment by her fiance through a fake social media page.

Speaking to IANS, Satti said that her condition was now better, though doctors have still kept her under observation.

“My allegations have been witnessed by the entire Jammu. My family has been targeted. My 12-year-old maternal cousin is also being subjected to abuse on social media,” she said.

The influencer was reportedly in a relationship with Prashant Sharma, and the couple were about to get married when things took an ugly turn between them.

“We were meant to get married, but had our share of fights, just like many other couples. But it did not mean that it would be taken to court or the police station. First, it should have been talked out within the family itself,” she said.

“Even when a matter is taken to court, it should be contested there, rather than making fake social media pages,” she added.

Satti said that without any trial or judgment, she was being treated as the culprit.

“Using a fake page, my entire reputation has been undermined. I asked the police for help. For the past one month, I have been visiting various departments. I sought help from the Cybercrime Department; had they wanted, they could have tracked the IP address,” she said.

She cautioned that in this way, anyone can target someone by creating a fake page and making false allegations against them. “This way, anybody would attempt suicide,” she said.

Satti stressed: “Where would the girls go if the police do not take any action?”

Urging the police to take action in the case, she said: “My family and I have been socially harassed.”

She underlined that the court will decide whether her allegations are fake or not.

“I did not take this extreme step when an FIR was filed against me. Even then, I was ready to face the situation. I was cooperating with the police, gave them all the evidence,” she mentioned.

“Just because he is not able to prove it, it does not mean that I can be abused using a fake social media page. It is not acceptable.”

Questioning police inaction, the influencer further said: “How were my personal photos and videos with Prashant uploaded on social media? Why did the police not take any action at that time? I suffered all this for one month, when I could not tolerate this anymore, I took this extreme step.”
